The much-anticipated Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel arrives on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been widespread.
Season 1 presents a diverse group of characters living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other accompanied by musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that drive fan obsession.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Could Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with fan service specifically in mind," the creator stated earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season moves, and how many of what they're anticipating happens this season.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some really amazing reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a few fans create a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on Prime Video on October 29.
