Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a challenging year, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's maiden championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from spring of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has secured 21 championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in Halle previously this season.

His retrieving play style and frequent outbursts on court had caused commentators to question if his skill to perform at the top level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his initial ATP Tour title, gained dominance to push for a final set.

Moutet rescued four early chances in a competitive third set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
