Approximately fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the public for tips.
A senior representative commented the vandalism rendered him speechless and had to be solved promptly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
